What if Dorothy was from the South but instead of a tornado bringing her to a world of wonder it was a hurricane? Is that something you’d be interested in? Well, Xbox sure hopes so because the long-awaited game from studio Compulsion Games is finally out. One question remains, though, is it any good? Is Xbox finally on a hot streak of releasing high-quality games or are they back to their ways of putting out stinkers?
Review Round-Up:
The game is at its best when it breaks from the combat cycle of collecting people’s pain and destroying stigma. It’s at its best when the narration takes the front seat, and combat isn’t forced in. Ultimately, though, South of Midnight isn’t its selling point despite its fun and quick platforming or even its mostly kinetic combat style. Come to South of Midnight for its rich story and its breathtaking art. – Kate Sánchez, But Why Tho?
I also can’t talk about South Of Midnight without discussing the original soundtrack. They did an outstanding job with each song that goes with the creatures as well as the music during certain scenes. I often found myself taking my time to ensure I heard the entire song just incase I was too quick and finished the sequence before the song ended. It’s not often I care that much about music in a game, it’s nice but I’m not sticking around for it. South Of Midnight is a great exception. – Dan Jackson, Gamer Social Club
