Last Week’s News Today: April 28, 2025

Are you someone who wishes there were a much easier way to keep up with all of the news in video games, movies, and sometimes TV? Are you also tired of clicking on an article that says, “Everything We Know About the Upcoming Batman Movie,” and then when you click on it, it’s just some random person saying, “we know nothing, but thanks for wasting your time.” Well, don’t worry because every Monday from now until they stop making news, I’ll be covering last week’s news today. Also, there’s a link to every individual topic covered in the article, so if you’re more interested in one topic over another, all you have to do is click on it and it’ll take you directly to it.

Review Round Up

Review Round Up has certainly been busy as last week saw four scheduled games get released. On top of that, they all ranged from good to nearly perfect. In other words, if you’re someone who likes video games, last week was a good week for you. If you’re unaware of any of these games, though, click on a box and you’ll be taken to its Review Round Up page where you’ll be able to see the game’s trailer, reviews from other outlets, and links to the game store of your choice if you like what you see.

Oblivion gets Shadow Dropped

They shadow dropped Oblivion last week… I wish I had more to say, but I honestly don’t. I’m rarely speechless when it comes to the news, but Xbox and Bethesda just randomly decided to surprise announce and release what could have been one of the biggest announcements all year. So… yeah. Go play Oblivion. That game is incredible.

Ghost of Yotei Release Date

As if the week wasn’t weird enough with Oblivion getting dropped into our lap, PlayStation decided to follow the trend by randomly revealing Ghost of Yotai, the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, is coming out on October 2. Normally, PlayStation would save this reveal for something like Summer Game Fest, but instead, it just came out of nowhere. My personal opinion is that they either have a lot of games to reveal later this Summer and they didn’t want Ghost to get lost in the shuffle, or they know a GTA 6 announcement is closer than we might all think and they want to own as many headlines as they can.

A New Street Fighter Character

Every fighting game seems to have its own issues these days. Tekken upset their entire community with its latest patch, Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to an end sooner than people expected, and Street Fighter 6 just doesn’t have the constant stream of content fans were hoping for. It’s the rare game where fans are screaming for CAPCOM to take their money, but there’s nothing to spend it on. Thankfully, with Season 3 happening later this year and classic character Elena coming this June, things are hopefully starting to look up for the famous fighting game. Also, as a long-time Street Fighter fan, I’ve somehow always managed to miss out on this character, but I think she looks great and might be the motivation I was looking for to jump back into Street Fighter 6 this Summer.

Predator Badlands Teaser Trailer

In 2022, someone had the bright idea of making Prey, one of the best science fiction movies of the last few years, and then putting it out on Hulu. On one hand, the decision allowed a lot of people to rediscover just how much fun a good Predator movie could be, but on the other hand, no one really understands how to make money through streaming, so Disney/20th Century more than likely lost a bunch of money. Well, just three years later, the success of Prey has led to Predator Badlands. In this latest installment of the Predator franchise, someone has decided to change up the formula. This time around, the Predator is going to be the hero of the film. Is that a good idea? I’m not really sure, but what I do know is that the trailer looks pretty great.

Sinners Box Office Success

Director Ryan Coogler (Creed and Black Panther) is back with his latest film, Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, and this thing is an absolute hit. The movie currently sits at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and in less than two weeks, the movie has made $161 million. And for anyone seeing that number and thinking it’s low, the film is now expected to earn a total of $300 million worldwide, which would make it one of the biggest original movies of the last ten years. So what’s the takeaway? Everyone and their mom cried about how Hollywood was giving us original movies, but they were all failing at the box office. So what makes Sinners different? Well, I think the formula is pretty simple. Hire a top-tier director, cast at least two big-name stars, and then make an incredible movie that reviews amazingly well. Everything Everywhere All At Once and Nope are two movies that immediately jump to mind. With such great reviews and financial success, it’ll be interesting to see if Sinners gets rewarded with any Oscar love this time next year.
