Last Week’s News Today: May 12, 2025

Are you someone who wishes there were a much easier way to keep up with all of the news in video games, movies, and sometimes TV? Are you also tired of clicking on an article that says, “Everything We Know About the Upcoming Batman Movie,” and then when you click on it, it’s just some random person saying, “we know nothing, but thanks for wasting your time.” Well, don’t worry because every Monday from now until they stop making news, I’ll be covering last week’s news today. Also, there’s a link to every individual topic covered in the article, so if you’re more interested in one topic over another, all you have to do is click on it, and it’ll take you directly to it.

Gears of War: Reloaded Announced for PS5, Xbox, and Steam

Last week, the internet cheered for joy. “Yay,” we said. “That company that announced they were raising all of their prices has announced that Gears of War: Reloaded would be releasing on everything, even the PS5.” And as we danced and sang the praises of Xbox, the dance floor was filled with fewer and fewer people, though, because that pesky thing called information decided to get involved. So, what is Gears of War: Reloaded? Well, similar to the Oblivion remaster that just released, this is a remaster of the very first Gears of War game. And that’s when everyone started filling up with disappointment.

Despite the $50 price point, a lot of people initially believed that Reloaded would be the original trilogy, but instead, it’s just the first game, which is kind of the worst of the series. Also, this one’s more for me. They announced that Reloaded would include co-op and a versus mode like the original. Maybe it’s just me, but I found it annoying that the announcement of these features made it sound like we didn’t think it would be included. Because it doesn’t include the full trilogy, I’m already on the fence about whether or not I’m going to buy this, but could you imagine if it didn’t release with co-op? What would even be the point? They also weirdly don’t have a trailer to show off all of the improvements. I’m sure they’re saving it for their Summer Game Fest event in June, but why not just save the announcement until then, too? I don’t know. Between the Oblivion shadow drop, raising prices on everything when you already struggle to sell anything, and now this, Xbox is in such a weird place.

Finally, a New GTA 6 Trailer

GTA 6 has a new trailer out, and it suggests that the most expensive game of all time might include features we’ve seen in past Rockstar titles. Whether it’s growing your muscles or even possibly getting fat like you could in San Andreas or growing out your beard and hair like in Red Dead Redemption 2, I think when we eventually get a deep dive into the mechanics of the game we’re all going to be stunned at just how immersive GTA 6 is going to be. It also has fishing, which means I know what I’ll be doing for most of the campaign. What’s it called when you steal a boat? Grand Theft Aquatic?

New Death Stranding 2 Previews

Earlier this year, I played Death Stranding in preparation for its follow-up coming out this June, and after the media’s response to their recent 30-hour preview for the game, I feel confident in saying that playing through the first game was a great decision. Everything that’s being said about Death Stranding 2 sounds amazing, but don’t take it from me. Shinobi602 has a fantastic write-up summarizing what everyone has experienced so far with the game. And don’t forget to click on one of the pictures attached to the article to be taken over to Shinobi’s Twitter page so you can show him some love.

PlayStation has started a new studio called Team LFG

There’s really not much to say about this one, but anytime a major publisher announces a new studio, you have to pay attention. Other than the statement released by the new team (full statement below), what I understand about this story is that at one point, Bungie was working on a game code-named Gummy Bears that was described as a “cozy MOBA.” Then, when Bungie went through layoffs, PlayStation made sure to take the team that was working on Gummy Bears and spin them off into their own team. And now with this announcement, not only do we know what’s happened to the team that was spun off from Bungie, but it’s very clear that whatever this game is, Sony has high hopes for it. And speaking of what the game is, if you read the press release, it states that the team draws “inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.” Before we move on to the next story, I’d just like to say, don’t worry, I too don’t know what a “frog-type” game is.

Mikey Madison And Kirsten Dunst To Star In Alejandro Landes Echavarría’s ‘Reptilia’

Honestly, I didn’t think a lot was going on in movies this week, but when I read the description of this movie, I had to mention it.

“Based on a script by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, the story tells of a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.” Borys Kit, The Hollywood Reporter.

Kirsten Dunst is an absolute legend (JUMANJI ANYONE!?!), and Mikey Madison is coming off winning an Oscar. I don’t care how insane that premise is, this movie is guaranteed to be great… or at the very least something we leave the movie with something to talk about.
