Predicting Summer Game Fest 2025

I love Summer Game Fest. Some people say it’s a worse version of E3, but I don’t think they could be more wrong. Between the actual Summer Game Fest event, the Xbox Direct, Wholesome Games, the PC Gaming Show, and more, there are a lot of places to find incredible games. So what will we actually see? Well, don’t worry because I’ve got you covered. Is any of this official? Who knows? But if anybody knows games, I know games. Just go back and read my Predicting The 2025 Game Award Nominees. So this is the plan for today’s article. I’ve got two lists. One is made up of only guarantees. If it’s on the list, it’ll be there, or I’ll eat a hat. The other list is all about the wild cards. It’s the games that should be at Summer Game Fest, but for whatever reason, they might not show up.

Guarantees:

Perfect Dark

Fable

Gears of War: Reloaded & E-Day

Outer Worlds 2

Star Wars Zero Company

Hell is Us

Exodus

Witchbrook

Skate Story

Demonschool

Streets of Rogue 2

Blumhouse Games

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Wild Cards:

Something from CD Projekt Red

If you’ve been doing any kind of detective work online, you’ve seen that some people in the gaming industry have been heading over to CD Projekt Red to check out… something. Maybe I’m reading way too into things, and all of this was simply for the 10th year anniversary of The Witcher 3, but CD Projekt Red has a lot of cooks in the fire… that sounds right, and Summer Game Fest seems like the perfect time to show off one of these cooked chefs. Whether it’s the Witcher Remake, more Witcher 4, a new Cyberpunk game, or a way too early peek at the new IP they’re developing, I think we’re going to see something from CD Projekt Red.

Persona 6

Maybe Summer Game Fest isn’t the right place for Persona 6 to be revealed. Maybe the Tokyo Game Show is where Atlus would prefer to reveal their next big title, but I think if we do see Persona 6, it will more than likely be at the Xbox Direct. In the past, the Xbox Direct has announced the Persona 3 remake as well as several past Persona titles coming to Game Pass. I think this is the wild card I’m most unsure about, simply because if this is announced this summer, it would suggest that 2026 could see both GTA 6 and Persona 6 releasing in the same year. If that’s the case, I guess I should start getting comfortable with the idea of only playing two games next year.

Resident Evil 9

Resident Evil 9 feels like my Hollow Knight: Silksong. I thought we would have seen it at last year’s Game Awards. Nothing. I thought we would have seen it at the beginning of this year at a PlayStation Showcase. Nothing. While it looks like my Resident Evil 9 2025 Game Awards nominee prediction is not happening, I would be shocked if we go any further into the year without an official announcement. Rumors suggest that Resident Evil 9 will be similar to RE7, in the fact that the next installment in the long-running franchise looks to take the series in a new and exciting direction. RE is one of my favorite franchises, and I’m desperate to see what the talented folks at Capcom have in store for fans, and quite frankly, I’m tired of being wrong about when we’re finally going to see it. MAKE IT HAPPEN, CAPCOM.

2XKO

2XKO is one of the weirdest games I’ve seen in a long time. If you’re someone who swims in the fighting game community waters, you’re well aware of this game. A team-based, co-op fighting game set in the League of Legends universe. The game looks like a lot of fun, but I can’t remember when or even if the game has ever had an official announcement that would let the wider public know about its existence. Whether the devs intend for the game to have a December release like we saw with Marvel Rivals last year or attempt to come out in what appears to be an insane 2026, at some point, 2XKO needs its big moment that makes everyone, not just hardcore fans of the genre, get excited. The reason this is a wild card and not a guarantee, though, is that I’m not sure if the developers feel that way. With the game being free-to-play, the developers might think that word of mouth from the community is all they’ll need to build the audience they want.

Star Wars Eclipse

You know how some games get announced and then years later you realize that they were never real? You find yourself sitting on a park bench, wondering if you are the only person who saw that trailer. If somehow, just for a moment, you had slipped between the veil of this reality and another, only to see an announcement for a game that would never come to creation in your world? Just me? Okay… ANYWAYS, Star Wars Eclipse got announced by Quantic Dream, a troubled (have to acknowledge it) studio that has made games I’ve loved since I was a little kid. In truth, the game and the team have gone radio silent since the game was announced back in 2021, but with the recent rumblings online, I think it’s finally time for Star Wars Eclipse to re-reveal itself.
