When it comes to being able to follow the story of Metal Gear, it’s pretty simple. First, you play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, then Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear, Snake’s Revenge, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear: Ghost Babei, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid Mobile, Metal Gears Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Acid, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and finally Metal Gear Acid 2. See. Not so complicated, right?
If, for some reason, though, you find this very easy-to-understand list too difficult to follow, you’re in luck because Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is here. The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is the beginning of the most batshit story you’ll ever experience in gaming. So if you’re new to the series, it’s the absolute best place to start. If you’re not new to the series, I’m sure you’ll be very normal and understanding about any small changes made to the game…
ANYWAYS, it’s Metal Gear Solid. It’s one of the best series in all of gaming. You’d be a fool to miss out on this. A FOOL! Unless the game is bad. Could it be? Well, I guess it’s time to find out if Metal Gear Solid Delta is the game we’ve all been waiting for.
Review Round-Up:
Metal Gear Solid Delta makes the case for its existence quickly. It smartly adheres to what made the original game great with evident reverence and makes updates only to the most crucial elements. For fans like me, it colors Snake Eater in a new light and elevates it to something better than I remembered. It’s impossible for me to objectively imagine this being my first experience with Snake Eater, but I am extra excited for those players who have always been curious about Metal Gear for this to be their starting line. – Kyle Hilliard, Game Informer
Did everything here age well? Heck no. Is it still a long-winded exposition bomb at multiple points? Absolutely. But if you’re here because of the original, I want you to know that everything in the OG Snake Eater that might have made you happy, sad, and/or mad, are all still here. All of the action, all of the stealth, all of the cheesy one-liners… For those of you who are jumping in for the first time? Have some patience and try to enjoy the rollercoaster. This one is definitely for the fans. – TJ Denzer, SHACKNEWS
