Ranking Robots: Lucky 13

Ranking Robots is the newest tri-weekly series that will be making its appearance on the site every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as I make my way through Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots. For those that are unaware of the Netflix Original, the show is a series of short stories that have to do with, you guessed it, Love, Death, and Robots. If anyone reading this ever saw the incredible collection of short films called the Animatrix (if you haven’t go check that out now) then you won’t have any trouble jumping into this new series.

While the story of a rookie pilot being forced to take command of the one ship that one else wants only to then form a real bond and even a friendship with that ship over the course of several missions is very interesting, unfortunately, the story is bogged down in clunky narration that puts the story in a lot of tell, not show situations. Yes, the combat scenes are fun, but the story is about a pilot and her ship and if not for the narration and ending sequence, that story would not have come across.
