It’s been quite a while since I’ve been motivated to play anything on my Switch, but it would be foolish to ignore Nintendo when they’re putting out a new game featuring everyone’s favorite plumbers. That said, the last time I played a Mario game he was working on his tan down in the Isle of Delfino. Platformers just aren’t for me. Thankfully, everything I’ve seen of Brothership says we’ve left our jumping boots at home and that it’s time for some turn-based combat. While I want to be excited about this, it’s clear I’m going to need to turn to the experts to determine if this is worth my money. Time to ask the big question. Is Mario and Luigi: Brothership worth getting on day one?
Review Round-Up:
Mario & Luigi: Brothership, the first new Mario & Luigi game in nearly a decade, seems content to iterate on past ideas from the franchise. Brothership brings a handful of new ideas to the Mario & Luigi formula, but only a few of them make the 20-year-old franchise feel fresh. – Michael McWhertor, Polygon
This is the first Mario & Luigi on Switch and it very much feels like the series’ first big-budget home console entry. It’s so much bigger than any of the older games, not just in terms of play time, but in terms of ideas too. The only bad thing about Brothership is that it sets the bar so high there’s no going back to the originals now. – Eric Switzer, The Gamer
