Metal Slug Tactics: Review Round Up

Metal Slug is a franchise that has always existed. Sure, the internet says it was first released in 1996, but we all know that’s not true. Metal Slug is forever. And yes, sometimes you would come across a new Metal Slug with a different number behind it, but you didn’t pay attention to that. You just played Metal Slug. Did you ever beat it? Of course not! No one has ever beaten a Metal Slug. All of that changes today though.

With the release of Metal Slug Tactics, not only is the series moving in a new direction with a different playstyle but the game will also feature an ending… because all tactic games have an ending. It’s a genre specialty! Finally, after 87 years of being on this planet, I will be able to tell strangers at the grocery store that I beat a Metal Slug game. That is, of course, if I buy it. Which leads us to the biggest question of them all. Is Metal Slugs Tactics worth a day-one purchase?

Review Round-Up:

There’s so much that is wonderfully unique about Metal Slug Tactics and it successfully increases the pace of a subgenre known for being much more methodical and cumbersome, but that may dismay purist TRPG fans. For those looking to find something fresh among TRPGs… mission complete. – TheWellRedMage, The Pixels

In the entire history of videogames, there have only been a few recorded cases of a studio performing the forbidden alchemy of transposing a game into another genre entirely. Until now, the most successful was probably R-Type Tactics (originally for the humble PSP, and now currently being remade), but I think the crown might have to go to Metal Slug Tactics. – Dominic Tarason, PC Gamer
