Welcome to Thinks of a Thoughter’s trailer breakdown for the newest Infinity War trailer. With the help of my friend Secret Thoughter M, I’m pretty confident we have 100% broken down this trailer perfectly. There isn’t a single outlet in the world that has done a better job… I’m just kidding. I hope you guys enjoy the breakdown.
The trailer opens with the arrival of something from space over the city of New York. While I speculated that this could be Bruce Banner about to fall into Doctor Strange’s house, more than likely it’s just the “Space Disk” that we continue to see appear.
Here we have Black Widow, Bruce Banner and a now walking War Machine. The way the trailer is set up is to make it seem like they are looking up at whatever is arriving but I’m confident that this is them in Wakanda or them about to head to Wakanda.
Gamora explaining who her father is to Tony Stark. It’s a brief moment in the trailer but in reality, it’s one of the most monumental moments in the history of the MCU. Since Avengers, Marvel has been building up Thanos as THE big bad guy and finally, for the first time, Tony Stark is learning about him.
Here we have a direct continuation from the end of Thor Ragnarok, with Thanos attacking and coming aboard Thor’s ship.
Our first look at some of the new gadgets that Tony’s suit has as he approaches the “Space Disk.” Secret Thoughter M thinks that Tony is using nano technology that allows his suit to do this. In the comics, it’s referred to as “bleeding edge”. My personal opinion though, is that the film will combine that concept with Wakanda technology since they appear to have a lot of similarities.
We are reminded of the two Infinity Stones that reside on Earth. The Time Stone sits around Doctor Strange’s neck and the Time Stone that keeps Vision alive.
Here we have Captain America and Black Widow meeting Black Panther in Wakanda. In the background, we can see War Machine, Banner, Falcon, Vision, and Scarlet Witch. It’s important to remember this for later on.
Here we see Shuri, Black Panther’s sister, looking over Vision. While Wakanda runs on Vibranium, the power of the mind stone is something that I’m sure has Shuri intrigued.
More than likely with the information that Thor has given the Guardians, we see Starlord, Gamora, Mantis, and Drax arriving at the Collector’s base to try and stop Thanos from taking another Infinity Stone. But where are Rocket and Groot?
Spider-Man and Iron Man dealing with Starlord is one of the reasons this movie is going to be amazing. Tony has always been the biggest smartass in the room but now that Starlord is here, he might be the serious one of the group. Also, Drax is here which is good know because this is the first time we’ve seen him involved in any of the major battles and I wondered if he would actually be killed or badly injured earlier in the film removing him from this part of the film.
We now learn that while the other Guardians are hunting down the stones, Groot and Rocket have gone off with Thor, but for what? WELL, get ready for this one folks because I believe that what we’re seeing here is Thor getting a new hammer AND that it has been digitally taken out of the scene. Let’s quickly break this down.
First off, this is the arm of a man that’s clearly holding something heavy. How do I know? Because my arms do the same thing every time I pick up something heavy…
Then we have this awesome scene, BUT if we take away all the lightning (this next picture is actually from the trailer, no trickery on my part) we will see some Marvel funny business.
Clearly, this is a picture of a man holding something that has been removed digitally, or he’s dancing, but I’m pretty sure he’s holding something. Which is fine by me because I’m personally excited to see what Thor’s new hammer looks like… as long as it doesn’t just look like the last one. Now, let’s get back to the trailer.
Here we can see our heroes getting ready for the big battle in Wakanda. The heroes that we know are here are War Machine, Falcon, Black Panther, Captain America, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and someone in the hulk buster armor which, at this point, I’m confident in saying is Banner. Where’s Vision and Scarlet Witch though? Based on the first trailer and some other information floating out there, there’s a chance that Scarlet Witch is staying back in the city of Wakanda with the Vision to keep him safe or, at least with Vision, he’s been captured by The Black Order.
Also, can we just stop and admire how awesome this looks?
I’m not sure if this ship is being shot down or as Secret Thoughter M thinks, maybe some of our heroes are in the ship and that this crash landing will lead to some sort of a comedic moment… I’m not really sure. I do know that this is on Titan though and it’s interesting to be able to see the remains of the once great civilization, even if what’s left of it is being destroyed.
In the comics, Thanos murders all of the Zehoberei (Gamora’s race of people) and that’s definitely what’s happening here in this flashback as Thanos “adopts” Gamora. As for the soldiers, Secret Thoughter M believes that these are actually Thanos’ soldiers that he once commanded before Tony Stark killed them all at the end of Avengers by blowing up all of the ships in space with the nuke.
Just in case anyone was wondering, Thor is not having a good time with Thanos.
Here’s one of the first full looks at Thanos’ crew, The Black Order, holding Loki prisoner. Based on the first trailer, I’m guessing he gives Thanos the Tesseract in exchange for his life or maybe he does it to save Thor’s life. Because Loki worked for Thanos in the past and failed him, I wouldn’t be shocked if this is the end of Loki. After all, if Loki had just done his job, Thanos wouldn’t need to be getting his hands dirty, would he? Maybe this is Loki’s final moment of redemption. He gives Thanos the Tesseract in exchange for Thor’s life while sacrificing his own. Either way, this results in Thanos now having the Space Stone. For those keeping score at home, that’s 2 down, 4 to go.
Shot of Thanos’ alien army breaking through Wakanda’s forcefields. The battle is about to begin.
Back on Titan, we see Doctor Strange doing Doctor Strange stuff by placing platforms for Starlord to jump on and aid in him dodging… something. What? I don’t have all the answers.
So I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t know what’s happening here but that doesn’t mean I can’t guess with the best of them. There’s a comic run that started with New Avengers Volume 3 #8 and it was in this story that Ebony Maw, the creepy alien up above, uses Doctor Strange to find out information for Thanos’ mission. In this particular scene above though, I’m not entirely sure if he’s capture Strange’s physical body or if he’s manged to trap Strange while he was doing his Doctor Strange ghost travel powers. Either way, this is the first time we’ve seen Strange in a real moment of weakness and danger. Honestly, out of all of the scenes from the trailer, this might be the most intriguing. There is a fear of possible mind control and suddenly Doctor Strange is fighting the heroes that are on Titan and we really don’t need to see mind control ever again in these movies. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
As we go back to Wakanda, we can see Banner (I’m assuming) getting overrun buy Thanos’ alien buddies. It’s at this point where I think things in the battle will seem lost and then suddenly, Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk and bursts out of the Hulk Buster armor.
We’ve now come to the part of the trailer where heart strings will be pulled. Someone is gonna die, but who?
Is it the man that started this incredible journey? After a decade of stories, will we finally have to say goodbye to Tony Stark? It’s certainly not looking good for Tony as his armor has been completely destroyed, and since he’s on an alien planet, I’m gonna guess he doesn’t have a spare. There’s also that whole thing about a Mad Titan leaping at him to punch him in the face. Tony has seen better days.
If not Tony though, will this finally be the end of the first Avenger? We can see Thanos, on Earth, fighting Cap and in Thanos’ gauntlet, two stones. Unless someone shows up to make the save (Hulk maybe) Captain America doesn’t stand a chance. Also, Thanos being on Earth is a huge deal and with only two stones. Granted, there could be one or two stones digitally removed from this gauntlet in this picture but either way, the fact that we know Thanos makes his way to Earth by the end of this movie changes things a lot.
The trailer ends on a nice fun scene with Peter Parker and Strange introducing themselves. I would have left this scene out of the breakdown but I actually think it might be somewhat important. If you pay attention to the background of this scene, it looks very similar to what’s behind Strange when he was attacked earlier in the trailer. Perhaps that moment from earlier is Ebony Maw trying to attack Strange’s brain while using his own mental abilities. Secret Thoughter M suggested that maybe Peter actually wakes Strange up from the attack and then they introduce themselves.
Either way, there’s a lot happening in this trailer and I’m sure I’ve missed something. I’m very excited for the next few days to see what everyone else has found. If you’ve made it this far, I just want to say thank you. I spent a long time working on this breakdown and you reading this means a lot to me. And of course, it wouldn’t be a piece of content on the internet without me mentioning the comment section. Make sure you leave your thoughts on the trailer down below and feel free to tell me if mine or my friend’s theories are wrong and why.
