Summer Game Fest is my favorite time of the year. It’s a time to discover new games while getting more information on titles that have already caught your attention. Whether it’s an indie game about running your own Thrift Store or a massive Triple-A title where you play as one of Marvel’s most famous heroes, Summer Game Fest has something for everyone. And while today’s article mostly focuses on the bigger titles that we might end up seeing at the event, don’t worry, once Summer Game Fest concludes on June 7, I’ll have an entire article showcasing all of the wonderful indie games I saw during the event. With that said, let’s get into what you should expect to see at this year’s Summer Game Fest.
Blumhouse Games

Way back in 2024, horror movie production company Blumhouse announced they were getting into the gaming industry. They showed off and teased a number of games: Fear the Spotlight, Sleep Awake, Crisol: Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, The Simulation, and Project C. Well, two years later and we’re down to three, and while we know that Grave Seasons is scheduled for August 14, little is known about either Project C or The Simulation, but it sure feels like SGF would be the perfect time for these games to reintroduce themselves to the world.
Capcom

Over the last few years, we’ve seen this Japanese Studio evolve from Capcom to CapGod. Between the Resident Evil series, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and the studio’s latest hit, Pragmata, Capcom just can’t miss. And just to prove their complete dominance even more, they’ve already come out and said they aren’t finished. So, what’s next?
Well, let’s talk about what we know for sure, and that’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword. At least for now, that’s still slated for 2026. So no matter what, we’re seeing this one pop up somewhere. Two other big properties ready for more content are Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6. While I feel safe guaranteeing the next Monster Hunter expansion will show up at SGF, it’s SF6 that might not be ready. Yes, SGF host, Geoff Keighley, loves a good movie tie-in, and Street Fighter certainly fits the bill, but there is always the chance that Capcom would want to hold the reveal closer to the upcoming movie’s release.
Beyond that, the questions get fun. We finally got a glimpse of the blue bomber at last year’s Game Awards, but since then, it’s been radio silence. While the teaser for the 2027 adventure left some fans cold, the Summer Game Fest could be the perfect time to start heating up the game’s expectations. We’ve also got a little franchise called Resident Evil. Ever heard of it? While it might be too early to show off the DLC for RE9, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing out there for fans to possibly get excited for. Whether it’s the long-rumored remakes of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil Zero, and Resident Evil 5, the teams behind the beloved franchise are BUSY, and even if we don’t hear from them this year, it won’t be long before we see some of the most iconic characters from Capcom’s catalogue return.
Chucklefish
One of the first games I ever wrote about on the site was a little indie game titled Witchbrook. It’s Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter. What’s not to love?! And after waiting a long, LONG time, fans finally got a new trailer and a release date. Sadly, the game would be delayed to 2026, and since that announcement, the team behind this fantastic-looking game has gone radio silent. If ever there was the perfect time for Witchbrook to reappear, it would be now.
Ember Labs
While I may have missed out on Ember Labs’ first game, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, I did see just how many people the game managed to make fall in love with it. With the first trailer for Kena: Scars of Kosmora debuting at the beginning of the year, it was made clear by the developers that their ambitions are great, and they’re not just looking to become a beloved indie studio but rather, one of the most respected teams in the industry. If Kena: Scars of Kosmora can keep up the excitement, then this is one to keep an eye on.
Hello Games
I’m gonna be honest with you. I don’t think we’re gonna see Light No Fire at Summer Game Fest. Don’t get me wrong, it’s on my personal wish list, but I’m just not that confident. Hello Games is too busy adding expansions to No Man’s Sky. At the rate they’re going, we’ll be able to mow the grass on whatever planet we call home. All jokes aside, Hello Games has proven to be one of the most talented developers in the industry, and when the day comes and we finally see that 2nd trailer, I can guarantee we’re all going to be blown away.
Konami

Remember when we all hated Konami? Well, it turns out that if you start making games people like, all those feelings become water under the bridge. And while I’ve never played Silent Hill or ever been a big fan of Castlevania, I can admit that both Silent Hill: Townfall and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse both look fantastic.
PlayStation

The catalyst for this entire article. PlayStation got everyone’s attention when they announced their upcoming State of Play 2 weeks early. Typically, that’s only the kind of thing you do when you’ve got something big to announce. So what do we know? Honestly, the only thing we know for sure is that Wolverine will have a large portion of the hour-long event. What’s exciting about this is that an event showcasing Wolverine would, on its own, be a lot of fun, but the fact that it’s just a piece of the puzzle is where things get exciting.
Let’s go ahead and get some of the more obvious choices out of the way. Marvel Tokon still has several characters left to announce, and this would be a great spot to finally announce the “outlaw” team that Ghost Rider is leading. I’ve had my fun predicting the Tokon roster in the past, so just for fun, let’s go with Ghost Rider, Blade, Deadpool, and Scarlet Witch. Another possibility that feels like it might as well be a guarantee is the long-rumored God of War spin-off. I won’t get into what the “leaks” claim this game will be about because why ruin the surprise, but if this game does show up, I’m personally excited to see it. It’s a premise that I don’t think a lot of God of War fans are going to be expecting, and I can’t wait to see their reactions.
Other than that, I would argue PlayStation basically has free rein to go in any direction they want. While this State of Play will be filled with a lot of the other games I’ve mentioned here today, Sony has all the reasons in the world to remind everyone that, despite some of their recent stumbles, when they get behind something, everyone should get hyped. So what’s on the menu?
This event might not be the right time, but if not now, I’m not sure when would be the right time to show off Horizon: Hunters Gathering. There was recently another closed beta for the game, and the last time Sony held a closed beta for a game so close to one of their events, it was for Marathon, which led to a massive public rollout. I think showcasing Hunters Gathering as one of many other games is a great way to showcase its highlights, rather than allow for people who are determined to hate on the game an opportunity to focus on it. Besides, who wants to hate on a game like Hunters Gathering when we can be blown away by the announcement of an Infamous remake? Right?! A boy can dream… Also, where’s Media Molecule? It’s been a few years since the team stepped away from Dreams, and I’d love to see what they have planned next. Oh, and before I move on, let’s just get it out of the way. Uncharted. I could easily see PlayStation ending their event with the Naughty Dog logo appearing, and everyone thinking it’s an update to Intergalactic, only to reveal that it’s actually a new Uncharted game.
Remedy Games
Control Resonant feels like that game of the year contender that’s hiding in the shadows, waiting to pounce and ruin everyone’s predictions. Crimson Desert, Forza, Resident Evil, and GTA are all expected to compete, but the folks at Remedy have that sauce. It doesn’t matter what the premise is; the game is a guaranteed banger.
You’re a writer running around a small town with a flashlight. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES YOU’LL EVER PLAY.
You’re a woman who works a corporate job. What’s that? There’s been an accident? Call OSHA? NOPE! CALL THE GAME AWARDS.
I’m not predicting it, but I am saying that Control Resonant is something everyone should be keeping an eye out for, and I wouldn’t be shocked if whatever they show at SGF shows everyone that they’re a real contender for all the end-of-the-year awards.
Rockstar
If I’m being honest, we’ll probably have a trailer out in the wild before SGA starts. There’s a reason this is out on Monday morning. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if at PlayStation’s State of Play, Rockstar announces some kind of cross-promotion, whether that’s a custom controller or even a bundle with the PS5 Pro. Plus, including GTA in the article gives me a legit reason for putting it in the thumbnail without it being total clickbait.
SEGA

SEGA is in a bit of a weird spot. While the Publisher has a number of big announcements under its umbrella, it just announced the cancellation of its highly anticipated “super game.” So, in terms of good news, SEGA is in need. So what’s on the horizon? Well, part of a Virtua Fighter presentation recently leaked online, so we can confirm we’re finally going to be getting a closer look at the highly anticipated fighting game. Another title that we can confirm is Crazy Taxi. That’s right, it’s finally back. With a recent tease on social media, it’ll be exciting to see what a Crazy Taxi in 2026 looks like. And lastly, while it was already shown off in a recent presentation, we should get another look at Stranger than Heaven, which is always fun because that game looks fantastic.
So those are the three that we can confirm, but what else?
Sure, some people are probably wondering where Sonic is, but unless he’s 2D or I’m getting a remake of Sonic Adventure 2, I’m not interested. What I care about is simple. Where is Persona? There was that weird teaser for the Persona 4 remake that just came and went. Can I get an update? No? Alright, how about this… Persona 6. Anywhere I go, all I hear are those greedy Square Enix fans demanding Kingdom Hearts news. Forget that! I want news about a good game. Tell me about Persona 6! It’s time, damn it. The children yearn for it.
Square Enix

Speaking of selfish fans. There’s a very good chance that Square Enix is going to show off both The Adventures of Elliot, a game I think looks really good, and Final Fantasy 7 part 3. And even with this, we’ll still hear people demanding more. What do you want? A remake of Chrono Trigger? A remake of Final Fantasy 9? Final Fantasy 17?!?! There’s a high likelihood that you’re getting a trailer to the conclusion of one of the best game series of all time, and you’re still demanding Mickey Mouse? Really?! Greedy! That’s what you are… by the way, I hope all of that happens to you. Even when it’s a game or series I’m not a fan of, I love watching fandoms get what they’ve been begging for.
Xbox

Another year, another opportunity for me to say that this year’s summer presentation is the most important thing Xbox has had since they announced the console. I seriously think this is year four or five of me claiming that this year’s presentation is the one where they bring out everything they have. The presentation where we’re so blown away that we all form one massive herd and stampede towards our nearest retailer and demand an Xbox.
Well, since the last time I wrote about Xbox, they put Phil Spencer on a giant piece of ice and pushed him out into the ocean to live out the remainder of his days, and I’m pretty sure Bill Gates literally threw Sarah Bond, Phil’s apprentice, into a volcano. I can’t confirm this, but sources are talking… so with new leadership, it feels like this is the one. This time, Xbox is gonna stand on stage and say, “gamers, we hear you. We know what you want and we’re gonna deliver.” What are they delivering, you ask? I’m pretty sure it’s just Halo, Fable, and Gears of War. What is this, 2006?
That said, I’m sure there are a lot of people excited for the Halo remake, and I know that I’m personally excited for Fable, and there’s gotta be at least one person out there excited for a Gears of War prequel. All jokes aside, if these games come out and actually review well, then that’ll be a great step forward in the rehabilitation of Xbox. But what else? It can’t just be those three games and then another Call of Duty trailer that closes out the event. These are the people who have spent the last decade buying half the industry. Where are the games?
Let’s look at what we know. First, there’s Clockwork Revolution, which got a pretty lengthy trailer last year despite not having any kind of release date to speak of. After that, there’s State of Decay 3, which I’m personally excited for, but as of now, it has no release date and has barely been talked about by the company.
What about Elder Scrolls? Moving on.
I think some of the bigger franchises that we could hear from, though, are Doom, with a possible expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages, and of course, there’s always Blade. While Arkane has had quite a rough go of things, the silver lining for the fans of the studio has always been Blade. If the studio can nail a game about everyone’s favorite daywalker, then they’ll be in a prime position to remind everyone just how much of a beloved and respected studio Arkane is. Besides that, though, it really feels like Xbox could announce anything. With game cancellations and major shake-ups in management, the upcoming Xbox presentation may not be the biggest they’ve ever had, but it’ll certainly be the most interesting.
